
Mike
Cox - Man of the Year
2008 Man of the Year Mike Cox, CEO of Anaerobe Systems,
is “always willing to get involved at any level!”
Mike’s outstanding participation within the community
includes Leadership Morgan Hill, Rotary Club of Morgan Hill,
Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) and numerous other ventures.
One nomination included the following: “Mike bowls
me over with his generosity, his kindness and his spirit.
While Morgan Hill is fortunate in its citizens, old and
new, I believe the town hit the jackpot when Mike (and his
wife, Mary) moved south from Saratoga.”

Mary
Cox- Woman of the Year
One nomination said of 2008 Woman of the Year Mary Cox, Laboratory
Manager, Veteran’s Administration Palo Alto Health Clinic,
“Mary has a full time career at her hospital, while
at the same time being active, involved in many Morgan Hill
community groups. . . . she is always willing to help support
a worthwhile cause, generously donating her home, her time
and her resources.”

Tracy
Murphy - Educator of the Year
The 2008 Educator of the Year Tracy Murphy, currently teaching
and is the Social Studies Department Chair at Ann Sobrato
High School, “has been teaching in the (MHUSD) for 27
years and has proven to be an invaluable asset to the education
system in our community.” She is highly respected by
both staff members and the student body. Tracy’s “
. . . charismatic and altruistic personality makes her one
of the students’ most praised teacher.” However,
Mrs. Murphy’s “ . . . most respected quality is
(perhaps) her genuine concern for her students. She has a
remarkable way of being able to connect with students and
worth with individuals with distinctive personality, mindsets
and backgrounds.”

Jonathan
Baio - Ann Sobrato High School Student of the Year
2008
Student of the Year Jonathan Baio, from Ann Sobrato High School,
“… single-handedly implemented the Sobrato Cornerstone
Project helping all freshmen with the high school transition.
The curriculum he has executed reinforces the developmental
assets which guide the decision making process of adolescents
allowing them to garner a positive self perception, interpersonal
relationships and a sense of social competence.”

Michele
Dragoescu - Live Oak High School Student of the Year
2008 Student of the Year Michele Dragoescu, from Live
Oak High School, is “motivated, intelligent, enthusiastic
and well-rounded . . . a mentor to her peers who gets along
with adults, as well. She is driven to do her best . . . .
She serves as a mentor to a . . . group of freshmen to help
them be a success in high school and to prepare for life.”
Michele plays an active role as the Commissioner of Academics
and member of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).
Cal
Color Growers, LLC - Business of the Year
Cal Color Growers is the 2008 Business of the Year
and, according to one nomination, has “ provided 15
years of flower donations to elementary, middle, high and
community adults schools,” which has certainly positively
and productively added to the learning environment of students
and work environment for teachers, administrators and support
staff at those schools.

Jeff
Perkins - Volunteers of the Year
The Chamber determines the final award, and the 2008
Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year is Jeff
Perkins. Jeff has been a Member of the Board of Directors
from 2002 and will be going off the Board December 31, 2007.
He has also been Treasurer from 2005 through 2007 and Taste
of Morgan Hill Co-Chair from 2005 through 2007. 2008 MHCofC
Volunteer of the Year Jeff Perkins has contributed truly extraordinary
amounts of time and genuine care to and on behalf of the Morgan
Hill Chamber of Commerce, both over the years and especially
this past year, and for that, the Chamber is a much better
organization and most grateful.
