Chris's Biography: >>>
Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce's new chief executive
officer has been hard at work.
"I like the challenge of a new job," she says
of her switch to a new career. "And I liked the challenge
of going out in public and meeting people." Her people
skills helped. "I enjoy laughing and I think people
responded to that," she said with a laugh.
Giusiana brings to the job a range of experiences from the
Morgan Hill and Cupertino Chambers of Commerce. She started
as a bookkeeper and office manager, and also worked on program
and membership development. In her time directing membership,
Giusiana says Morgan Hill's chamber grew from 400 members to 670.
After five years in Morgan Hill, Giusiana took the Cupertino
Chamber position in part because of the new challenge. She
also thought it would be a great community to work with.
Gilbert Wong, a businessman who served on the Chamber's search
committee, said Giusiana's combination of personality and experience
helped make her an appealing candidate. "She's highly energetic
and that struck me, and she is very straight forward and personable,"
he said. Wong was also impressed by Giusiana's chamber of commerce
background in membership, management and business advocacy. Giusiana's
experiences as an immigrant are also an asset in the highly diverse
Cupertino, Wong said.
"I look forward to working with businesses and helping them
grow and watching the community benefit as well. That's what chambers
do best of all. It can become a passion."
History: Raised near Liverpool, England,
Giusiana first challenged herself when she moved to the United States
in 1981. Trained as an engineer in England, she took a job in Milpitas.
Subsequently, she moved to Gilroy when she married a police officer there.
Her husband, Gregg Giusiana, hass now retired from his position as Gilroy's
chief of police. After leaving the engineering field to raise two daughters,
Gennifer, now 15, and Rachele, now 17, Giusiana returned to the workplace
at the Chamber of Commerce in Morgan Hill.
She became President of the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce in 2005 and
returned in 2008 to the Morgan Hill Chamber as President.
