2007 Sponsors

Be Creative Design is a family business founded in 2005 by artists Lester and Elizabeth. An aunt who loves to quilt was the inspiration for their business.

Their patterns are based on original designs with additional offerings that include finished goods, one-of-a-kind designs, prototypes of current designs, and pattern originals.

Be Creative Design views the independently owned quilt shop as a special place. Each shop has a unique personality, reflecting the owner's passion. Retail customers are strongly encouraged to purchase their patterns through their local quilt shops to preserve this long tradition. For more information, go to www.bcdesign-online.com.

Sponsorship Opportunities

The South Valley Quilt Association is an all-volunteer organization that depends on community sponsorships to present the Harvest Quilt Show. Because the show has the opportunity to draw from a large and diverse audience at the Taste of Morgan Hill, it is important that the show remain admission free. This means that we have to raise a significant amount of money each year to make this happen. The Association offers several opportunities for businesses and individuals to partner with them to enrich the South Valley with this major textile art attraction.

Scholarships

Textile Arts Scholarship Fund and Classroom Grant
To encourage the creative art and skill of quilting, the South Valley Quilt Association endeavors to award a yearly Textile Arts Scholarship to a local student, high school or college, who enrolls in an educational program in the area of textile arts.

Our objective is it to encourage the pursuit of education in the areas of textiles and sewing - art as it relates to textile and garment design and construction - whether it leads to quilting or not. Sewing is a skill that offers a lifetime of rewards and endless possibilities. On this subject one of our members commented: "I am so pleased that we put our money to such good use. Of the two things I learned in junior high, typing and sewing have proved most beneficial. Typing for my career in computers and sewing for my enjoyment and sanity. Even if a student does not continue in textile studies, but continues to sew and enjoy, we have accomplished our goal. Sewing is a life-long skill. I am proud to be part of our group."

2006 Textile Arts Scholarship Award
We are pleased to announce we have awarded our first scholarship to Alexi Allen, a senior at Live Oak High School who has studied for two years in Donna Foster's Regional Occupational Program Fashion Design classes. She will attend West Valley College and study Fashion Design.

K-12 Classroom Quilting Activities

SVQA encourages classroom quilting activities as a means to teach history; skills in math; color, design, and art appreciation; and textile/sewing skills. The Harvest Quilt Show provides an excellent venue to exhibit class and student projects for community viewing.

Teachers who want assistance with classroom quilting activities or quilting supplies should download the Classroom Donation Request, describe their project and submit it for consideration. SVQA will review the request and determine what resources they can provide. As profits allow, we will donate quilting books to schools for teacher and student reference.
